Apple is facing some heat in India after complaints about iPhones slowing down and experiencing bugs following the iOS 18+ update. The Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a notice to the tech giant, asking for an explanation of the problems that users have been facing.

This move was announced by Pralhad Joshi, India’s Consumer Affairs Minister, who took to social media to let the public know. He shared that the CCPA had gone through the complaints filed through the National Consumer Helpline. After taking a closer look, the department decided to send a notice to Apple, requesting details about the performance issues caused by the latest software update.

Apple under the spotlight in India

This action highlights the growing attention that Apple is getting in India, which has become an important market for the company. Apple’s presence in India is growing, especially in the premium smartphone segment, where iPhones have been quite popular. But with users complaining about performance drops after the update, the Indian government is showing it’s serious about protecting consumers, particularly in the tech world.

With more and more people in India using Apple products, the company will need to pay attention to these issues if it wants to keep its loyal fan base happy. This notice from the CCPA signals that consumers’ voices will be heard, and companies will be held accountable.

What’s next for Apple

Apple will now need to respond to the CCPA’s notice and explain the issues with the update. The company might also have to offer solutions to fix the performance problems. As the Indian government steps up its scrutiny of tech companies, Apple’s response will be watched closely to see how the company handles consumer complaints in India moving forward.

It’s clear that in India, where tech is booming, companies need to make sure their products perform as expected, or they could face backlash from both users and regulators.

Apple’s big plans for India

While dealing with the complaints, Apple isn’t slowing down in India. In fact, the company is actively expanding its presence in the country. It’s launched the Apple Store app, which aims to offer a more personalised shopping experience for Indian customers. The app provides tailored recommendations and makes it easier for users to browse and purchase Apple products.

This launch is part of Apple’s broader strategy to strengthen its hold on the Indian market, especially in smaller towns and cities. Alongside its new app, Apple also opened flagship stores in Mumbai and New Delhi in 2023 and has plans to open more locations in Bengaluru, Pune, and Delhi NCR. It’s clear that Apple has its sights set on India for the long run.
