Google’s Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt has confirmed that the company’s Motorola Mobility unit is indeed working on its own smartphones. Speaking at AllThingsD’s Dive into Mobile conference, when he asked about the devices he said, it’s ‘amazing stuff’. And you’ll see it sooner rather than later. Schmidt was quoted saying “They have a new set of products, which are phenomenal and very, very impressive.” [caption id=“attachment_706826” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt. Schmidt also spoke about how the number of Android users could hit two billion users in a year or two. According to him, the growth in numbers would be spurred by low-end devices. He said, “If low-end smartphones are inexpensive now, imagine just how inexpensive they’ll be a few years from now. … A relatively inexpensive smartphone with a browser is all you need to get the world’s information. And that’s how we’re going to hit the next billion devices.” You can watch the entire video of Schmidt speaking here. In December last year, it was reported that Google and its Motorola Mobility unit were working on a handset code-named the X-phone. According to Wall Street Journal report, the company plans to enhance the X Phone with its recent acquisition of Viewdle, an imaging and gesture-recognition software developer.   Last year, Google partnered with LG to launch the Nexus 4. While the smartphone was itself was great, it ran into a number of supply issues with users complaining of shipments delays.  Hopefully with the Motorola phone Google can avoid such issues.
