Google Vids introduces new AI features

With its latest update to Google Vids, the company is bringing studio-like capabilities into a browser, powered almost entirely by artificial intelligence.

The idea is simple. The new features aim to turn video production into something as intuitive as writing a sentence. Instead of timelines and manual edits, users can now describe what they want and let AI assemble the visuals, audio and motion.

At the centre of this update is a new level of control over AI-generated avatars. Users can now direct avatars using natural language prompts, guiding how they behave in a scene. This could mean demonstrating a product, interacting with objects or performing specific actions, all defined through text.

Google says the system maintains consistency across scenes, ensuring that characters do not suddenly change appearance or voice midway through a video. Users can further customise avatars by adjusting outfits, facial features and backgrounds, again using prompts rather than manual tools.

The update also integrates Google’s latest video model, Veo 3.1, which allows users to generate short clips directly within the editor. These clips, up to eight seconds long, can be stitched together into longer narratives, offering a more dynamic way to build content.

Audio has not been left behind. Following last month’s addition of Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro, users can now generate background music and sound effects to match their visuals, further reducing the need for external tools.

Beyond creation, Google is also simplifying distribution. Videos can now be exported directly to YouTube, removing the extra steps of downloading and uploading. By default, these uploads remain private, giving creators a chance to review content before publishing.

Another practical addition is a Chrome-based screen recording extension, which enables users to capture video, audio or both directly from their browser. This makes it easier to produce tutorials, presentations or walkthroughs without switching between multiple applications.

Pricing and availability

Google is positioning this update as both accessible and scalable. Every user with a standard Google account can generate up to 10 AI-powered videos per month at no cost, offering a low barrier to entry for casual creators and newcomers.

For more advanced users, higher-tier plans such as Google AI Ultra significantly expand these limits. Subscribers can generate up to 1,000 videos per month, including those created using the Veo model, making the platform suitable for professional or enterprise-level content production.

With this latest update, Google is not just adding features, it is reshaping how video content can be created. By shifting the focus from technical execution to creative intent, Vids could make high-quality video production far more accessible than ever before.
