Google Glass tech specs revealed: All you need to know

After a series of very exciting promo videos, Google has finally revealed the technical specifications of Glass, which include among other things, a 5MP camera, full day battery life, bone conduction audio and 12 GB memory. The specs release comes even as Google announced that the head mounted device was about to ship and released the  Glass Mirror API documentation,for apps. Here is a detailed look at what potential buyers will get for their $1500: 16 GB storage, but likely connectivity to Google Drive There will be 16GB of flash storage on-board the device, of which around 12 GB will be usable. However according to The Verge, “it will sync with “Google cloud storage” — presumably Google Drive” - potentially giving users a lot of space. [caption id=“attachment_702410” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Reuters[/caption] You need Bluetooth… and Android Although Google says that Glass is compatible with “any Bluetooth-capable phone”, it also says that the app will require Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher.  This indicates that the app is only available for Android users - at least for now. The company adds that “MyGlass enables GPS and SMS messaging”. Bone Conduction Transducer Now this is very cool. What this means is that for audio, users will not have to wear earphones or headphones, as sound will be transmitted to the users inner ear through the skull. One Glass fits all According to Google, the glass which ‘will fit any face’ will have adjustable nosepads and durable frames. Consumers will also get extra nosepads in two sizes. Display High resolution display is the highlight of the device, which according to Google is the “equivalent of a 25 inch high definition screen from eight feet away.” TechCrunch elaborates, saying “In its developer guides, Google says photos should have a 640x360px resolution, so that’s probably also the resolution of the Glass display, though Google interestingly doesn’t note this in the specs.” Camera The 5MP camera can also shoot video in 720p. Connectivity Wifi - 802.11b/g Bluetooth Battery One full day of typical use. Some features, like Hangouts and video recording, are more battery intensive. Charger The Micro USB cable and charger will be included with the device. And in a cautionary note Google says, “while there are thousands of Micro USB chargers out there, Glass is designed and tested with the included charger in mind.
