Google acquires hand gesture recognition app startup Flutter

Google has bought a new startup Flutter which is best known for creating a Mac and Windows app that lets users control iTunes, Spotify, Chrome, VLC on their Macs or PCs using hand gestures. The app uses web camera in your Mac to detect hand gestures. In a statement to TheNextWeb Google said that, “We’re really impressed by the Flutter team’s ability to design new technology based on cutting-edge research. We look forward to supporting and collaborating on their research efforts at Google.”    [caption id=“attachment_1150263” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Screengrab of Flutter.[/caption] Meanwhile Navneet Dalal, CEO, Flutter, said in a post on the Flutter website, “Today, we are thrilled to announce that we will be continuing our research at Google. We share Google’s passion for 10x thinking, and we’re excited to add their rocket fuel to our journey. We’d like to extend a special thank you to all of our users; your feedback and evangelism inspire us every day. Flutter users will be able to continue to use the app, and stay tuned for future updates."  In an interview to Wired in 2012, Flutter’s co-founder Mehul Nariyawala had pointed out that unlike Kinect which detects movements, Flutter detects gestures indicating that “eventually, the system might be able to pick up on subtle things like facial expression."  To know more about Flutter read Wired’s piece  here.
