Time to empty your bank accounts! The great 2016 winter video game sales are on.
All the biggies of the video game industry have announced their winter/Christmas sales for 2016. Valve, EA, Ubisoft and GOG, all have their goods on sale for the next few days.
Here’s everything you need to know about these sales:
Steam Winter Sale: Ends 2 January at 11PM
By far the biggest distributor of the bunch, Steam’s sale is the one to look out for this holiday season. Steam is among the only stores that accepts Indian currency and sells games at prices that we’d consider reasonable. Better still, the platform now supports cash on delivery payments as well as Paytm, Indian debit cards and more.
Some highlights from the sale include the entire Borderlands franchise for Rs 1,084 (that’s 84 percent off), Project Cars at Rs 683 (67 percent off), Quantum Break for Rs 636 (25 percent off) and more.
If you’re looking for a game, start here.
Origin Holiday Sale: Ends 12 January
Electronic Arts (EA) sells its games via Origin , so expect to see all of EA’s franchises on sale here. This includes the Mass Effect, Battlefield and Titanfall franchises. In fact, you can pick up Battlefield 4 for Rs 749 or even the entire Mass Effect Trilogy for Rs 749.50 (Yes, they even want that 50p for some reason).
Classics like Dead Space and Dragon Age: Origins are available for less than Rs 150.
Ubisoft’s Crazy Christmas Sale: Ends 27 December
As with EA, Ubisoft has its own store for peddling its own stellar franchises and that store is also hosting a Christmas sale. You’ll find all of Ubisoft’s franchises on sale for up to 75 percent off here.
Fair warning, Ubisoft still doesn’t sell its games in INR, so prices can be quite high when compared to Steam or Origin.
Highlights of the sale include the Assassin’s Creed Animus Pack for €99.99 (around Rs 7,100) which includes every single Assassin’s Creed game ever made. The price is high, but represents a 68 percent discount.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege and Far Cry Primal also see massive discounts of 50 percent and 60 percent respectively. However, these games are cheaper on Steam and Origin.
Head here only if you can’t find the Ubisoft game you’re looking for anywhere else.
GOG’s Goodbuy 2016 sale: Ends 29 December
GOG is the place to be if you’re looking for DRM-free titles . The lack of DRM or Digital Rights Management means that you can enjoy these games hassle-free, without needing third-party validation, restrictions on number of installs, always-on internet connections and more.
GOG is also host to a whole slew of retro gaming titles like Arx Fatalis , Neverwinter Nights and more.
Highlights from the sale include Dragon Age: Origins for $4.99 (around Rs 340), The Witcher 3 for $29.99 (around Rs 2,000) and even Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind for $4.99 (around Rs 340).
