Drop what you’re doing right now and start downloading the DOOM open beta on Steam. Hurry, for time is short! Bethesda is running the DOOM multiplayer open beta on Steam from 15 April to 18 April only. DOOM, the third reboot of a franchise that’s been going strong since 1993 is set to revitalise the aging franchise by taking gamers back to the roots of the original. Expect frenetic, pedal-to-the-metal action, blood, gore, and all the usual little bells and whistles that have been a part of the franchise, and id Software, since 1993.
The game, at least the multiplayer portion of it, has been developed by Certain Affinity. These are ex-Bungie developers who’ve worked on Halo and Call of Duty: Ghosts (an awful game, we might add) and die-hard Doom fans who’ve spent time with the closed beta have left some pretty scathing reviews. The consensus seems to be that Certain Affinity has basically reskinned Halo with DOOM artwork. Whether that’s good or bad depends on your affinity to Halo and your love for the Doom franchise. Regardless, you can play the multiplayer beta right now. Keep the naysayers at bay and make up your own mind about the game.
