Minecraft is an open world sandbox game that puts players in a procedurally generated 3D world where you can manipulate the environment in various ways. A favorite activity in Minecraft is to use textured 3D cubes to create massive and intricate structures. All of this is now available as a mobile VR experience.
Oculus announced the release of a VR edition of the game in its store. The game will be playable on Samsung's flagship phones. The Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Note 5 support the game.
The game has the same features as Minecraft Pocket Edition. Survival mode, skins and multiplayer are supported. Because of a similar feature list and supported modes, the VR edition seems like a stereoscopic, 360-degree version of the mobile edition. There are two view options available, a theater view and a more immersive first-person view. A separate wireless gaming controller that supports Samsung Gear VR is required for playing the game.
Mojang developed the VR edition with the help of John Carmack. John Carmack is known for genre defining titles for PC, including Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake. The games have great level design and a dark atmospheric setting. Carmack is the chief technology officer at Oculus.
