Paris Game Week: Here are the top 10 announcements for PlayStation 4 and PS VR

Sony started off the 2017 Paris Games Week with a keynote filled with a number of big announcements for both PlayStation 4 and PS VR gamers. While most of the announcements were about games likely to be announced in 2018 or even later, Sony packed in enough to make PlayStation fans drool.

While there were a bunch of announcements including big games like the new Spiderman, God of War and Final Fantasy XV, we have a list of the top ten announcements from Sony’s event below.

Spiderman

Expected: 2018

While the trailer unveiled at E3 2017 left a lot Marvel’s Spiderman fans longing for more, developer Insomniac Games have more surprises in store in the new trailer. The PlayStation 4 exclusive features more on the emotional aspect of things in the game with the new Spiderman, Miles Morales finally meeting Peter Parker.

The trailer also reveals more on the surrounding New York city environment around Spiderman. The game is expected in 2018, however, we do not have an official release date yet.

Ghost of Tsushima

Expected: Not known yet

Made by developer Sucker Punch, Ghost of Tsushima is described as a new open-world adventure title that promises to be different from the inFamous titles made by the makers earlier.

While we don’t know much about gameplay at the time of writing, the trailer reveals that the game will take players back to Japan’s feudal era with the protagonist being a samurai.

Last of Us Part II

Expected: Not known yet

Talking about big names, The Last of Us Part II is one of the highly-anticipated titles for PS4 fans. Developers Naughty dog have not revealed a date for the launch yet but the new cinematic trailer surely reveals the amount of violence and gore that will be the part of the game.

The new trailer is gruesome to a point that it is almost disturbing to watch certain parts. The developers also named the characters — Yara, Lev and Emily, who would be seen in the game with the name of the most prominent character in the trailer yet to be revealed.

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

Expected: DLC update in December 2017

The popular horror VR title Resident Evil 7 has been around for a while now. The game will be one of the major title’s to receive an update. The game is now receiving a new mode called ‘Not a Hero’ which will arrive later in December.

The free DLC update picks up where the story ends with Resident evil 7 and should account for more gaming hours for RS7 Biohazard fans.

Star Wars Battlefront 2

Expected: 17 November 2017

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is supposed to release in a few days with the official launch date being 17 November. EA decided to build up the hype even further with a new trailer at Paris Game Week. The short clip features more on the gameplay which allows players to play as their favourite characters.

Battlefront 2 which will be the fourth major instalment of the popular franchise, will also be a direct sequel to the 2015 instalment of the game.

Final Fantasy XV

Expected: 13 December 2017

Final Fantasy XV fans were treated to a new character episode trailer with Episode Ignis. This was the first reveal of the chapter with the DLC focussing more on the character of Ignis. The chapter is also expected to have multiple endings allowing players to replay the game with different outcomes.

The latest update will be available for download starting 13 December with Monster of the Deep, a PSVR update will be out on 21 November.

God of War

Expected: Early 2018

God of War gameplay was featured back at E3 2017, but Sony was certainly not done there. The PlayStation 4 title which is expected to launch early next year received a new trailer with more combat gameplay, setting it apart from previous versions of the game.

The trailer also reveals more on the father-son combat relationship evolving in the new game.

Detroit: Become Human

Expected: Spring 2018

Among the newly announced games at Paris Games Week was Detroit: Become Human. The main character revealed in the trailer is shown to be an android who is faced with difficult choices as the game progresses. The game emphasizes the emotional aspect of human beings which make seemingly straightforward decisions more complex.

Detroit: Begin Human is not coming anytime soon with developer Quantic Dream stating a release in Spring 2018.

Erica

Expected: Not Known Yet

Sony’s new released social-gaming platform PlayLink received a new title at PWG 2017 with the announcement of Erica. The game involves teams linked together through the PlayLink app, solving a murder mystery, as we gather from the trailer.

We don’t have a release date for Erica at the time of writing.

Megalith

Expected: 2018

Described as a hero shooter, Megalith would be arriving in 2018 as a PSVR exclusive. As the trailer suggests, the game involves controlling creature referred to as Titans, fighting to gain more power to become Gods.

No gameplay footage was included in the trailer here through the game maybe different to master when played in VR.
