IFA 2016 is full of surprises and one such surprise is the Acer Predator 21X gaming laptop. Why is it surprising? It has a 21-inch, curved display, that’s why!
The Acer Predator is a true beast of a machine. It packs in two, yes, two Nvidia GTX 1080 graphics cards and an Intel Kaby Lake CPU. The CPU model is yet unknown, but we’d guess that it will be something along the lines of an Intel 7700HQ, 45W mobile chipset. Intel is yet to announce a 7700HQ, but it’s coming in Q1 2017 and that’s also when the Acer Predator 21X is launching.
The star of the show, the screen, is a 21-inch screen with a resolution of 2560x1440 (2K), and, as mentioned earlier, it’s curved. The screen also supports Nvidia’s G-Sync technology, which is a nice bonus for gamers.
In addition to all of this, Acer is throwing in a Tobii eye-tracking module. For those unaware, the Tobii eye-tracker follows a user’s eye movement and translates that into the game as an independent axis. Games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution use this to great effect, allowing you to look at and interact with items without moving the mouse or changing your field of view.
If that wasn’t enough, you also get a 4.2 audio system. Yes, as with the GPUs, you get two ‘woofers’. Acer didn’t scrimp out on the keyboard either. You get a keyboard with Cherry MX keys and the numpad can be reversed and made to double as a touchpad.
The entire device is said to weigh 8kg at least. Acer is yet to reveal details on the device’s pricing.
