Here's your chance to pit Dragon Ball Z and One Piece characters against each other on the Nintendo 3DS

Two games based on two of the biggest anime franchises of all time are set to bring cross-game multiplayer to the masses! One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum and Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden are the two games involved. The former is set for a Japan launch on September 21, while the latter has been out since 2015.

To those Dragon Ball Z and One Piece fans salivating at the prospect of pitting Vegeta against Nami, note that these games are Nintendo 3DS titles and are not available on any other platform.

The games will reportedly offer local and multiplayer cross-game combat and gamers can choose to battle each other with whichever game they own. Both games have been developed by Arc System Works and published by Bandai Namco. Since the games appear to use the same engine, cross-game multiplayer would have been less taxing on the developers. The sad news for those not living in Japan is that it took more than four months for Dragon Ball Z to make its way to western markets. Does this mean western fans will have to wait till 2017 before they get their hands on One Piece? That would be a sad state of affairs indeed. One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum and Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden are fighting games along the lines of Tekken or Mortal Kombat. The games feature a roster of characters from their respective animes who battle it out in an arena.
