E3 2016: Microsoft might be gearing up to debut Xbox TV and Xbox streaming devices

Microsoft might be gearing up to launch an ‘Xbox TV’ device as well as an Xbox streaming stick of sorts at E3 in June this year. These are still rumours at present, but TheVerge reports that Brad Sams, executive editor at Petri has stated that the devices exist and will be unveiled at E3 2016.

The Xbox streaming stick is said to be a Chromecast like device that will be used to stream Xbox content elsewhere in your house. It might enable Xbox game streaming as well as streaming of content from Xbox apps, such as Netflix, Hulu, etc.

The rumoured Xbox TV device does seem to be the more interesting of the two however. If the rumours hold up, the device will be a TV hub of sorts, a cross between an Apple TV and a stripped down Xbox One. Think of the device as a Universal Apps-ready device. While it won’t be capable of running full-fledged Xbox One games, it might be capable of streaming them and natively running Xbox Arcade titles and apps built on UWP.

In their report, TheVerge points out that Microsoft has ceased production of the Xbox 360 and that users are still buying the aging console. The Xbox TV might be the perfect, modern alternative to that device.
