Activision didn’t attend E3 this year, but they did manage to get Sony to squeeze in a gameplay trailer for their upcoming game. Named Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, the game will move beyond Earth and will be set in the solar system.

We won’t bore you with details of the plot, it’s a Call of Duty game after all and it’s not like you care very much about it anyway. On the off-chance that you do, we’ve already outlined the plot here .

Come to think of it though, can the gameplay be that different from Advanced Warfare or Black Ops?

The gameplay demo, embedded above, seems to emphasise these points. Despite the grappling hooks and space ships, the game looks very much live almost every Call of Duty game before it. Yes, combat takes place in space and yes, it looks like you can pilot spacecraft, but it looks like you’re playing the same old Call of Duty.

You can see more vertical movement in the trailer and the grappling hook seems essential in enabling that. We are, however, justifiably worried because Advanced Warfare also promised vertical gameplay. This was restricted in usefulness only to situations that required it to further the plot.

If it’s not apparent already, we’re already jaded by the title. Giving Activision their due however, they’re obviously desperate to shake things up.
