The Taiwan Excellence Gaming Cup (TEGC) returns to India with a schedule spanning almost 6 weeks and as many cities. The prizes total Rs 5 lakhs and the cities include Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata.
The TEGC is a gaming tournament executed by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (Taitra) and is meant to celebrate the excellence of Taiwan’s manufacturing industry. Taitra has organised the gaming tournament every year since 2013. This year’s event will be the largest yet, they claim, owing to popular demand.
Whatever the motivation, this is a gaming tournament and one that revolves around one of the most popular games in the world, Dota 2. The event schedule is as follows:
- Delhi: 29 – 31 July, 2016
- Hyderabad: 5 – 7 August, 2016
- Mumbai: 12 – 14 August, 2016
- Bangalore: 19 – 21 August, 2016
- Chennai: 26 – 28 August, 2016
- Kolkata: 2 – 4 September, 2016
- Mumbai: 16 – 17 September, 2016
The competition will follow the usual esports rules pertaining to Dota 2 and will involve teams of 5 facing off against each other in Captain’s Mode. 12 teams will qualify for the finale. The winning team will take home Rs 2 lakh, the team in second place will take Rs 80,000 and the third and fourth place holders will take home Rs 40,000 each. The prizes then taper off till finally, the last set of teams go back with Rs 12,500 each.
The entire event will be streamed live on Twitch.
Taitra will use the event to showcase Taiwanese products, this includes brands like Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, etc.
