Doom's John Romero and Adrian Carmack promise to bring back rocket-jumping with Blackroom

The co-founders of id Software, John Romero and Adrian Carmack are revisiting their FPS roots with a brand new Kickstarter called Blackroom. The game promises to have the dark, atmospheric setting of genre defining classic titles Doom and Quake. The game promises to be violent and fast-paced. The popular movement mechanics from Quake are also going to be in this game, including strafing, circle-strafing and rocket-jumping. The game has co-op, 1v1 deathmatch and arena modes planned, along with a ten hour single-player campaign. The title is also going to support extensive modding and allow for community designed maps out of the box. There are 6 planned multiplayer maps that are to be included with the game at launch. Speedrunning challenges and leaderboards are also planned. The game takes place in a variety of locations. Military simulations, infernos and outer space are known locations for the multiplayer mode. The single-player campaign will take players through abandoned victorian houses, abandoned wild west towns and pirate galleons that may or may not be abandoned. Hoxar, an in-universe company has developed the Blackroom, a virtual simulated environment that apparently allows anyone to be anywhere at any time. However, something is going scarily wrong with the simulations, and the shifting reality is producing real monstrosities. The viral marketing site for Hoxar has more information for those who want to dive deep into the lore. Keep track of developments at the official Blackroom site.
