A new kind of Mario coming next year: Nintendo

When we talk about video games, Mario is easily the most popular and well known name in the industry, well at least for the 80s and 90s generation. The popular franchise went on to offer a variety of games but now it seems that it is going to make a comeback in an all new avatar as Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto said that we might see “ a new kind of Mario” at E3 next year. In an interview with IGN, Miyamoto said that “We’re always challenging ourselves to create something new, so hopefully you’ll see a new kind of Mario in about a year or two. Maybe next E3 we’ll be able to share something.” Mario’s last major appearance was on a Nintendo Wii U-based game titled Super Mario 3D World. This was back in 2013 and just a few days back Nintendo announced two new updated Mario games, Paper Mario: Color Splash for the Wii U and Mario Party for the Nintendo 3DS, coming later this year. Nintendo is also expected to bring the new Nintendo NX console next year along with a bunch of titles including the recently announced Legend of Zelda title. Miyamoto also spoke about how bringing changes to Mario is not as easy as Zelda. Games based on the Mario franchise are harder to develop as the development depends on approachability and accessibility. Some new people who have joined Nintendo and have given a chance to look at Mario “with fresh eyes.”
