2K has officially announced BioShock: The Collection, a remaster of the original franchise

It’s been 10 years since the original BioShock entered this world, but it only seems like yesterday. At the time, the steampunk themed shooter was spectacular. Taking full advantage of DirectX 9.0c and the advanced shader affects it offered, BioShock’s visual splendor was beyond question. But it wasn’t just the visuals that drew you in, were they?

10 years hence, BioShock and its sequel, BioShock 2, have aged well. That said, the world has moved on, we’ve already seen the next generation of console—with another generation on the way—and 4K displays popping up everywhere.

Fans have been clamouring for a remastered version, particularly for the PS4 and Xbox One, and 2K has listened . News of the game has been leaking out at a steady pace and the only thing surprising about the announcement was that the remastered collection was officially announced rather than leaked again.

Dubbed BioShock: The Collection, the bundle will release in Asia (including India) on September 15 this year. The collection will include every single BioShock game and DLC released since 2007 and all of it remastered with better visuals and more. We’re not clear on what the latter includes.

The collection will retail for $59.99 (around Rs 4,100), which isn’t bad if you don’t own the games already. If you do own the games, BioShock, BioShock 2 or the Minerva’s Den DLC, you’ll get the remastered versions of the respective titles for free. Since BioShock Infinite isn’t getting a remaster anyway, that game will not be affected.

If you’re on PC though, we have a better suggestion for you. The Steam Summer Sale is on right now and all the games are being sold with an 80 percent discount. You can get all three games for Rs 525 and DLC’s at about Rs 125 each. The price of the whole package shouldn’t cross Rs 1,500 and that’s still cheaper than the Rs 4,100 that you’ll probably have to shell out for The Collection.
