Google opened its biggest artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure hardware engineering infrastructure hardware centre in Taiwan on Thursday. Google has made it out of Washington this time, and has expanded itself to the Asian region.
The President of Taiwan has said that it is a show of confidence in the island as a trustworthy tech partner. Taiwan has been ranked 10th globally in the 2025 IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking.
World’s largest chipmaker
Taiwan is home to the world’s largest contract chipmaker, TSMC, whose chips are widely used by the companies like Nvidia that are driving the global AI boom.
Google Cloud’s vice president of platforms infrastructure engineering, Aamer Mahmood said, “The technology developed and tested in Taipei is deployed in Google data centres around the world, which in turn power Google devices that billions of people rely on everyday.”
Trustworthy AI
Taiwan is in a race to test the testament to Taiwan’s place as an important centre for global AI recognition and become a vital secure AI hub.
“This also allows the world to see that Taiwan is not only a vital part of the global technological supply chain, but also a key hub for building secure and trustworthy AI,” President Lai Ching-te said according to Economic Times.
Taiwan has always raised concerns about Chinese made AI systems like DeepSeek.
