From AI App Store to Personalised AI GPTs, OpenAI announced some massive new updates at DevDay

OpenAI announced some major developments at their first annual developer’s conference, OpenAI DevDay. The AI studio gave ChatGPT users more freedom and introduced GPTs, which lets anyone create their own version of this popular AI chat system. There were a whole lot of other exciting developments as well, which represent a shift towards a more hands-off approach in the AI market. Instead of relying on a few all-purpose AI systems, we’re now seeing a more open landscape. While those established systems continue to expand their capabilities, OpenAI is taking inspiration from Apple’s success in becoming a platform that nurtures others’ creativity. This shows that being the go-to place for other people’s innovation can be just as valuable as innovating yourself. Here are some of the biggest announcements from the developer’s conference: GPT-4 Turbo OpenAI unveiled the GPT-4 Turbo, an upgraded version of the GPT-4 model. This new model offers two versions: one for text analysis and another for text and image comprehension. Pricing is set at $0.01 per 1,000 input tokens and $0.03 per 1,000 output tokens for the text-only version. Processing a 1080 x 1080 pixel image with GPT-4 Turbo costs $0.00765. The model features a context window of 128,000 tokens (approximately 100,000 words), four times larger than GPT-4’s context window. The knowledge cut-off for GPT-4 Turbo is April 2023, compared to GPT-4’s September 2021 cut-off. Copyright Shield Program OpenAI introduced the Copyright Shield program, promising to protect businesses using OpenAI’s products from copyright claims. OpenAI will cover legal fees for customers facing IP lawsuits related to content created with OpenAI’s tools. New Text-to-Speech APIs OpenAI launched a new text-to-speech API called the Audio API, offering six preset voices and access to two generative AI models, priced at $0.015 per 1,000 input characters. User-Generated GPTs OpenAI is allowing users to build their own GPT models for personal or enterprise use without coding knowledge. Additionally, enterprise customers can develop internal GPTs based on OpenAI’s knowledge base. GPT App Store OpenAI plans to launch the GPT Store, where users can publish their AI models. Initially, it will feature creations from “verified builders,” and OpenAI is exploring the possibility of compensating those with popular GPT models. Assistants API OpenAI introduced the Assistants API, enabling developers to create “agent-like experiences.” Developers can design agents that retrieve external knowledge or execute programming functions for specific tasks, such as coding or vacation planning. DALL-E 3 API OpenAI’s text-to-image model, DALL-E 3, is now available through an API with built-in moderation tools. Users can generate images at varying resolutions, with pricing at $0.04 per generated image. These developments by OpenAI signify a more open and inclusive approach to AI development and deployment, allowing users to actively participate in the creation and sharing of AI models and fostering a marketplace for AI solutions.
