Union Minister of Defence, Rajnath Singh has stated that the need of the hour is to invest in technology. “While it may not bear fruits immediately in the future, it will position India at a level people can’t believe right now,” he said.
Singh was addressing the crowd at the Firstpost Defence Summit in New Delhi as the chief guest.
The current world order has ensured that technology has emerged as a major front. “Nations that invest heavily in Artificial Intelligence, quantum computing, cyber warfare, smart weapons and space warfare will only be able to grow and develop.”
The Minister continued, that although success is not guaranteed, in the next 20-25 years, India will grow so strong that no one can imagine now. “That’s why we are promoting defence technology development and introducing Technology Development Fund”
The Technology Development Fund (TDF) is a scheme, a cornerstone initiative of the Ministry of Defence administered by DRDO as part of the ‘Make in India’ campaign, which aims to achieve several key objectives. These include providing financial support in the form of grants to Indian industries, including MSMEs and Start-ups, as well as academic and scientific institutions.
The focus lies on fostering the development of Defense and dual-use technologies that are presently absent within the Indian defence sector. Furthermore, the scheme aims to cultivate partnerships with private industries, particularly MSMEs and startups, encouraging a culture of Design & Development of Military Technology, while offering them financial assistance. Emphasis is placed on advancing research, design, and development of cutting-edge technologies, thereby pioneering new advancements within the country.
