After several teaser via its social media channels, it’s now official that the Renault Captur SUv will be launched in India on 22 September. According to the latest tweet by the French automaker, an event has been scheduled for the same date at 12.00 pm where the all-new Captur will be revealed by actor Ranbir Kapoor.

The SUV has been spotted testing several times over the past months, and a report by CarAndBike, now points out that booking for the new SUV will officially start from 22 September. The same report points out that the Captur will go on sale in October with price tags starting from Rs 11 lakh, with the high-end trims selling for as much as Rs 16 lakh.

So far Renault has only been teasing the new Captur on its social media channels. The design is similar to the one sold internationally as ‘Kaptur’, meaning that those aggressive flowing lines along with the modern interiors will make it to India as well. The same goes for those sporty 17-inch alloy rims and the LED lighting system.

As for what you get under the hood, this is an area that will see plenty of changes keeping the product’s India pricing in mind.

There’s an expected 1.5-litre petrol version that is currently available in the outgoing Duster SUV which develops 105 bhp and 142 Nm of peak torque. The 1.5-litre diesel is expected to arrive in two options, one with 79 bhp and the other tuned to deliver 108 bhp. The petrol models are expected to pack in a 5-speed manual or an optional CVT unit while the diesel models will get a 6-speed shifter or the EasyR AMT transmission.

The Renault Captur will directly compete with offerings from Hyundai (Creta), Mahindra (XUV500) and Jeep’s recently launched Compass .
