Yuzhan Technology, a Foxconn subsidiary, has sent back around 300 Chinese engineers from its facility in India at a time when relations between the two countries are improving.

According to a report by the Economic Times, Apple supplier Foxconn recalled a number of workers from its iPhone manufacturing units in India last month. This is the second time the Taiwanese company has made such a move.

Yuzhan Technology is establishing a display module assembly unit in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs 13,180 crore. In a stock exchange filing from May, Foxconn announced a $1.5 billion investment in its Yuzhan subsidiary, as part of its broader strategy to move more iPhone production out of China in response to potential high US tariffs.

“Foxconn has informed the government that they have been asked to send back all the Chinese expat employees whom Yuzhan Technology brought to India to set up the component ecosystem and factory with immediate effect,” a source told ET.

The person added that the company “had” to send some of its workers back and that 60 other engineers who were set to come to India have now been asked to stay back. Additionally, Beijing has asked Foxconn chairman Young Liu to write a report on the company’s investments in India.

India has agreed to a long-pending Chinese proposal aimed at easing border tensions, while also moving to resume direct flights and restore business ties. According to a report by The Economic Times, citing government and industry officials, the two countries have also reached an understanding to explore trade cooperation, particularly in strategic areas such as rare earths. Additionally, New Delhi may consider relaxing visa restrictions for Chinese business professionals.
