OpenAI has introduced exciting updates to ChatGPT, making the AI assistant more accessible than ever. Users can now reach ChatGPT through a dedicated WhatsApp number or by calling a toll-free line.

Alongside this, a new Maps feature has been added to the mobile app, promising enhanced functionality for on-the-go users.

ChatGPT comes to WhatsApp and phone lines

In a move aimed at widening its reach, OpenAI has made ChatGPT available on WhatsApp globally. To chat with the AI, users can simply add the number 1-800-242-8478 to their contacts and start messaging. This update means anyone with WhatsApp can now engage with ChatGPT, no OpenAI account required.

For users in the United States, the experience goes a step further with phone calls. By dialling 1-800-CHATGPT, people can interact with the bot through Advanced Voice Mode, a feature enabling real-time, conversational exchanges. Each call includes 15 minutes of free interaction, making it an accessible option for users seeking quick assistance or information.

Mobile maps for local discovery

Complementing its communication features, OpenAI has also launched a Maps feature within the ChatGPT mobile app. This addition allows users to search for local businesses, restaurants, and attractions directly through the app. The feature ensures up-to-date information, creating a seamless experience for users exploring nearby options or planning outings.

This integration reflects OpenAI’s focus on making ChatGPT a comprehensive tool, blending conversational AI with practical, everyday utilities. The Maps feature stands out for its promise of real-time accuracy, enhancing the app’s appeal for users seeking local insights.

A step toward AI for everyone

OpenAI’s updates underline its commitment to making AI accessible to as many people as possible. These features not only simplify how users interact with ChatGPT but also position OpenAI as a key player in the race for AI adoption, competing with giants like Google, Meta, and Amazon-backed Anthropic.

By introducing these new capabilities, OpenAI is expanding the ways ChatGPT can integrate into users’ daily lives, from answering quick questions to navigating the world around them. With these updates, the chatbot continues to evolve as a versatile and indispensable tool for its growing global audience.
