Dolby Laboratories is shaking things up at CES 2025 with its latest innovations in automotive entertainment. Known for creating unforgettable audio-visual experiences, Dolby is now aiming to bring that magic to your daily commute. Imagine transforming your car into a mini theatre, where movies, music, and even podcasts come to life like never before. At CES, Dolby unveiled its grand plans to make immersive in-car entertainment the norm, showcasing how it’s teaming up with top manufacturers and suppliers to achieve this vision.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The company’s focus this year is on two major fronts: expanding its already popular Dolby Atmos technology to more vehicles and introducing Dolby Vision, its high-end visual tech, to cars for the first time. With a growing catalogue of content, from music to podcasts, Dolby aims to make your car rides as entertaining as your living room binges.

Expanding Dolby Atmos to more cars

Dolby’s presence in the automotive industry has been growing at a rapid pace. Since its initial CES appearance in 2023, the number of car manufacturers incorporating Dolby Atmos has more than doubled, now exceeding 20. Big names like Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo are already on board, with new partnerships, such as Sony Honda Mobility, adding even more momentum. Sony Honda’s much-anticipated EV, AFEELA, is set to feature Dolby Atmos, promising an unmatched audio experience.

Attendees at CES had the chance to experience this firsthand at Dolby House, where the 2025 Cadillac OPTIQ was on display with its 19-speaker AKG audio system, all standard with Dolby Atmos. Dolby is also collaborating with major tech players like Texas Instruments and MediaTek to expand Atmos integration into even more vehicles, including aftermarket audio products from brands like Pioneer.

A growing catalogue of Dolby Atmos content

Dolby isn’t just bringing the tech—it’s bringing the content, too. With a massive collection of Dolby Atmos-compatible media, drivers now have access to tracks from the majority of Billboard’s Top 100 Artists, as well as a growing library of audiobooks and podcasts. Whether it’s music or spoken word, Dolby is making sure your drive is packed with high-quality sound experiences.

Introducing Dolby Vision to the automotive world

Dolby Vision, already a game-changer for home entertainment, is now making its debut in cars. This high dynamic range (HDR) technology enhances visuals with richer colours, deeper blacks, and stunning detail, making every in-car screen a treat for the eyes. At CES, visitors got a sneak peek at Li Auto’s Li MEGA, the first vehicle to feature both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Partnering with Samsung Display, Dolby plans to roll out Dolby Vision in more vehicles worldwide. Samsung’s advanced OLED displays are now fine-tuned to deliver Dolby Vision, simplifying the process for car manufacturers to adopt this technology. With this partnership, Dolby is set to revolutionise in-car entertainment, turning every journey into a cinematic experience.
