Can desi messenger app Arattai take on Meta’s Whatsapp in India?
The founder of Zoho, Sridhar Vembu

In a bold move to dominate the existing messaging app, Zoho has launched Arattai, a messaging platform that waves an edge in the communication landscape. It is a made-in-India instant messaging app that allows users to share information that is end-to-end encrypted. The app which is currently in its early stage pays significant emphasis on the fresh approach, business communication and user privacy.

With a call to embrace Swadeshi, the messaging app has already hit 7.5 million downloads, skyrocketing to 3,000 to 350,000 in just three days. The streak comes with widespread calls and invitations on social media platforms including some WhatsApp groups. The founder of Zoho, Sridhar Vembu, has been actively advocating its reliability and accessibility on different platforms. In an X post, Vembu wrote, “Arattai is on the surface a simple product but it has a lot of depth inside…"

What will Arattai be doing to stay ahead of its rivals?

There are some active usages with the introduction of modern technology. Instead of being a limbo Arattai is offering an Android TV version of it which WhatsApp has not introduced. The app is the portrayal of a made-in-India product and may become a rival of WhatsApp which offers more or less similar features. WhatsApp still dominates the market with around 2.95 billion monthly active users worldwide. In contrast, Arattai has already achieved 1 million+ monthly active users, posing a significant threat.

According to Vembu, the CEO of Zoho, Arattai is designed in such a way that it glides through different screens without any error and uses low-speed internet which can become a stand-out feature. It is inclusive in its approach and has become the most downloaded app at Play store.

As people from different sectors like rural set-up come forward they prefer an app which uses low-bandwidth, the reason why the app is expected to grow. In Indian global tech, this innovation can be marked as a boon for multiple users.

Chairperson of Mahindra group, Anand Mahindra in his X post said, “I have downloaded Arattai today, with pride."

Signs of Swadeshi

With push to the idea of Swadeshi and Atmanirbhar Bharat, Arattai is available and ready to do wonders with its wide reach. The hype around the app is real and buzzes around with massive audience engagement.

It has also witnessed a surge in India and explosive growth. With the intention of making it a super app, the homegrown messaging app has tailored to its vision for India.
