Apple’s latest venture spatial computers, the Vision Pro mixed reality headset, has achieved remarkable success since its pre-order availability. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple has sold an impressive 160,000 to 180,000 units of the headset, marking a significant milestone as the company ventures into its first product line in nearly a decade. The overwhelming demand for the Vision Pro has resulted in extended shipping dates for new orders. According to Kuo, delivery times for all models are now projected to be 5-7 weeks from the February 2 launch date. The headset experienced an immediate sell-out once pre-orders opened, contributing to the surge in shipping times. Interestingly, the popularity of the Vision Pro has created an opportunity for scalpers, individuals who purchase large quantities of high-demand items at regular prices and resell them for profit. These scalpers are taking advantage of the headset’s allure by listing it on eBay for double the retail price, indicating that consumers are willing to pay a premium to secure the in-demand device. The Apple Vision Pro’s repair expenses have also been outlined by the company, cautioning users to exercise care to avoid significant repair costs. According to details shared on Apple’s official website, users are advised against dropping the headset, as damages such as cracks to the Vision Pro’s glass could incur a repair cost of $799. Furthermore, damages to other components of the headset may result in even higher repair expenses, reaching up to $2,399 (approximately Rs 2 lakh). Apple offers an optional protection plan called AppleCare+, which requires a payment of $499 for two years or $24.99 monthly for coverage. However, it’s important to note that repairs are not entirely free under this plan, with Apple indicating that it will still cost about $299. In the case of glass issues, the total cost for repairs with AppleCare+ amounts to approximately $798, just $1 less than without the plan. Despite the costs, AppleCare+ can be advantageous for users who accidentally damage components other than the glass, as it helps avoid the hefty $2,399 repair expense. The overarching advice, whether opting for AppleCare+ or not, is to handle the Vision Pro with extra care to prevent significant repair costs. While the official launch date for the Vision Pro headset in India remains undisclosed, Apple is reportedly considering subsequent rollouts in the UK, Canada, and China after its US debut. Described as an experimental product by Apple, the Vision Pro is undergoing testing in specific regions before a broader release.
