An OLED display for the budget iPhone?
The display on the iPhone SE 4 is expected to be a 6.1-inch OLED panel, using low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) technology similar to the iPhone 13. LG Display and BOE, two of Apple’s trusted suppliers, are reportedly handling the screen production. While LG Display is anticipated to supply 25% to 35% of the panels, BOE might take on the bulk of the orders, underscoring Apple’s diversified sourcing strategy.
This shift to OLED represents a significant improvement over the LCD displays found in earlier SE models, bringing better colour accuracy, contrast, and energy efficiency to Apple’s budget line.
48MP rear camera and Face ID rumours
The iPhone SE 4 is rumoured to adopt a 48-megapixel rear camera, matching the iPhone 16’s specifications. If true, this would make it the most advanced camera ever in the SE lineup, providing high-resolution photos and improved low-light performance. Additionally, the front-facing camera, expected to feature a 12-megapixel sensor, could also receive upgrades, possibly including Face ID support—marking a departure from the Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
Mass production of these camera modules has reportedly begun at LG Innoteck’s Vietnam facility, with components being shared with Foxconn and Cowell Electronics. However, to maintain the SE’s affordability, Apple is expected to use existing camera components rather than introducing entirely new designs.
