Apple Watch Series 10 to feature bigger display, thinner chassis, will be almost the same size as Ultra

In a recent note, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared his expectations for the upcoming Apple Watch Series 10, predicting a thinner chassis and significantly larger displays compared to the Series 9. The most striking aspect of Kuo’s forecast is the substantial increase in screen size.

Kuo anticipates that the new Apple Watch will come in sizes of approximately 45mm and 49mm, up from the current 41mm and 45mm models.

It’s important to note that these measurements refer to the case height, not the diagonal screen size, which means a taller case will naturally accommodate a larger display. For context, the current Apple Watch Ultra also measures 49mm in case height.

This shift represents a dramatic change. The smaller version of the Series 10 would be as large as the current larger Series 9, while the larger model would rival — and possibly exceed — the screen size of the Ultra.

The Ultra, however, will maintain its bulkier profile due to its thicker titanium design and the protruding crown guard.

If Kuo’s predictions hold true, the screen size increase would be significant for the main Apple Watch line. Given that the current Watch screens already feature extremely slim borders, it’s unlikely that slimmer bezels alone could account for such a size increase.

Kuo’s report aligns with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman’s recent claims that Apple is planning thinner designs for its upcoming iPhone, Watch, and MacBook Pro models, continuing the trend initiated by the M4 iPad Pro launch.

Interestingly, Kuo does not foresee any size changes for the new Apple Watch Ultra, suggesting it will retain the same dimensions as the Ultra 2. However, he mentions that Apple might introduce a dark titanium colour option for the first time.

There have been ongoing rumours about a significant Apple Watch hardware redesign that would feature new band attachments, but it is unclear if this is what Kuo is referencing. This redesign, often referred to as the ‘Apple Watch X,’ was previously speculated to arrive in either 2024 or 2025.
