Apple is preparing to roll out its second-generation Vision Pro headset, with a release window slated between autumn 2025 and early 2026, according to a recent report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. While this aligns broadly with earlier projections, the timeline isn’t quite as aggressive as some had anticipated.
Recent updates suggest Apple has pivoted away from developing a more affordable Vision headset. Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo highlighted last week that plans for a budget-friendly version have been shelved, with Apple shifting focus towards enhancing the Vision Pro series.
The next iteration is set to offer a considerable boost in performance, upgrading from the current M2 chip to the highly anticipated M5 chip. The original Vision Pro debuted with the M2 chip, but the subsequent rapid releases of M3 and M4 left the expensive $3,500 headset feeling somewhat dated.
This time around, Apple intends to synchronise the M5 chip’s launch with the first M5-powered Macs, aiming to keep the new Vision Pro on the cutting edge.
In terms of design, the Vision Pro 2 is expected to closely resemble its predecessor. Bloomberg’s report suggests that, although Apple is exploring various concepts for the Vision line, one version of the upcoming headset will maintain a similar external appearance. The most significant advancements will be internal, with the upgraded M5 processor playing a crucial role.
Apple has also been enhancing its software offerings, with the latest visionOS 2.2 update introducing new Wide and Ultra Wide display options for Mac Virtual Display. These features have garnered considerable interest and highlight Apple’s efforts to maintain the Vision Pro’s appeal.
