Apple’s iPad Air and the new iPad mini with Retina Display will officially be launched in India on 7 December, according to the company’s distributor Ingram Micro.

The iPad Air is priced at Rs 35,900 for the WiFi only 16 GB version, while the iPad mini with Retina Display is priced at Rs 28,900.

According to a report in the Economic Times , Apple could also launch a buyback scheme with the new iPads. The report quotes a senior executive with an Apple trade partner in India as saying that the company could include buyback schemes on old iPads and tablets, cash-back offer and EMI schemes, following the success of a similar strategy adopted for the iPhone.

As far as the buyback scheme is concerned, it does seem like a good idea given that iPad 4 or iPad 2 users could look to upgrade to the new iPad Air.

Also the iPad mini’s screen without the Retina Display wasn’t one of the best in the markets and those users too could be looking to upgrade to an iPad mini with Retina Display. What will make a buyback scheme a success is if Apple ensures that users, especially Apple fans, end up getting a decent price for their older iPad.

The iPad Air and the iPad mini with Retina Display both face serious competition in India with the slew of cheaper tablets around. The latest of course is the Google Nexus 7 (2013 version) which is priced at a much lower Rs 27,999 for a 32 GB version of the tablet with LTE and cellular data.
