As Apple rolls out the developer beta for iOS 18.2, iPhone users are getting a glimpse of the new features coming soon.

Following the public release of iOS 18.1, the 18.2 update brings a mix of user-friendly upgrades and behind-the-scenes enhancements, with notable improvements to the Find My service, Camera Control, and expanded Siri functionality.

Find my gets flexible sharing options
One of the most useful updates in iOS 18.2 is a Find My service enhancement that allows users to share the location of lost items with anyone, not just trusted friends or family.

This feature could be a game-changer for lost luggage, enabling travellers to share AirTag locations with airlines or other third parties. Shared links are temporary, remaining active only for a few hours and can be turned off at any time, ensuring privacy remains intact.

Smarter Siri with on-screen context
Apple is also enabling app developers to share on-screen content with Siri. This behind-the-scenes upgrade means users will soon be able to ask Siri for help based on what they’re looking at in an app — whether that’s a document, a photo, or other content.

This capability will eventually extend to ChatGPT integration, allowing AI assistance based on live context.

Big Camera Control boost for iPhone 16 users
The iPhone 16 series is set to receive a significant Camera Control update with iOS 18.2. A new auto-exposure and auto-focus lock will let users lock these settings with a single button push, helping photographers capture consistent shots.

Additionally, a new double-click speed option lets users adjust the sensitivity of the Camera Control button, choosing between Default, Slow, and Slower settings to fine-tune their experience.

This update builds on the existing Camera Control options, which already include zoom and exposure adjustments. While these additions promise to enhance the photo experience, keep in mind that features in beta may not always make it to the final release.

More AI power on the way
Apple is also reportedly bringing ChatGPT integration directly to iOS 18.2, including a potential Plus upgrade and image generation capabilities, giving users new ways to interact with AI.

These additions are anticipated to launch with the official iOS 18.2 release, expected in early December.

With these new features, iOS 18.2 is shaping up to be a highly anticipated update that caters to both everyday and advanced users. Whether these enhancements make it to the final rollout remains to be seen, but Apple seems poised to deliver a well-rounded update to wrap up the year.
