On Friday, 3AI Holding and Seetha Mahalaxmi Healthcare (SML) launched Hanooman AI, an Indian large language model (LLM) designed with the Indian demographic in mind. The AI model was first unveiled on February 21 at an event in Mumbai.

Hanooman AI boasts support for 12 Indian languages and a total of 98 global languages, along with text translation capabilities. Currently, the Hanooman AI platform is freely available to all users, but the company has plans to introduce a premium version with a paid subscription in the future.

The official handle of the AI platform, Hanooman, announced the launch on X (formerly known as Twitter), stating, “Say hello to Hanooman, India’s very own Generative AI, breaking through language barriers effortlessly! Experience the magic of seamless communication in your preferred language like never before! Whether it’s Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, or any other language, Hanooman has got you covered!”

It’s worth noting that the company has made its chatbot accessible through both a web client and an Android app, both of which are operational as of now.

Hanooman AI comes packed with features designed to cater to various important sectors, including healthcare, governance, financial services, and education. With its impressive support for 12 Indian languages and a total of 98 global languages, Hanooman AI can communicate with users in their native language, providing a seamless experience across diverse linguistic backgrounds. Some of the global languages supported by the AI include English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese, Russian, Chinese, and more.

In terms of functionality, the chatbot offers a wide range of capabilities similar to those of OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini. It can answer queries, generate text, share recipes, and engage in conversations. While the company hasn’t disclosed specific details about the size of the training data or the parameters used in the AI model, they explained that Hanooman integrates specialized LLMs with an integration synthesis matrix. This enables the delivery of clear, adaptive insights and facilitates seamless complex data transformation into actionable intelligence.

During our testing, we found that Hanooman AI performs reasonably well for basic text-based generative AI tasks. However, it’s important to note that it is not multimodal and lacks internet access. Consequently, it cannot process or generate images, nor can it provide real-time information. When we inquired about its knowledge, Hanooman AI indicated that its data cut-off date was April 10, 2022.

Users have the option to interact with Hanooman AI in various languages. In our experiments with English, Hindi, and we observed that the responses were pretty on-point. However, your mileage may vary since we did not try other languages.

Nonetheless, as with all generative AI, Hanooman AI is expected to improve over time as it continues to learn.
