The Sports Ministry last month recognised ISWAI as a national federation for running the affairs of mud wrestling, the traditional style of the sport (Dangal).

The Indian Style Wrestling Association of India was formed in 1958 and has been in existence for about 60 years.
The GFI was de-recognised by the ministry in 2011 because of infighting in the body and since then it remained so till the ministry's order on Friday to recognise it.
It said that sports events may resume but the final call rests with the respective local authorities where the venue falls.
