Sector regulator Trai has sought public feedback on levying spectrum usage charges linked to annual revenues for internet service providers, something similar to the norms for mobile companies.
The sources added that the SUC for Reliance Jio, which has pan-India licence to offer high-speed broadband services, will go down to 2.88 percent, from 5 percent.
Spectrum sharing would be allowed only where both the licensees are having spectrum in the same band and leasing of spectrum will not be permitted, an official release said.
It has also said that Mukesh Ambani-led RJIL -- which has been opposing telecom regulator Trai's recommendation for a uniform annual spectrum fee -- can continue paying current charges by operating only as an Internet Service Provider.
Spectrum Usage Charge is the levy telecom companies pay based on their adjusted gross revenues, an annual fee which is over and above the price they pay for acquiring airwaves.
Till now, spectrum usage has been charged at different slab rates.
The Union telecom minister also made it clear that no decision was reached in today's meeting on merger and acquisition norms for the sector.
