Meghalaya: Five cops shot dead by militants

Five policemen were today gunned down by suspected Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants in heavily forested area of Meghalaya's South Garo Hills district, a top police official said.

Private mine owners to blame for mishap: Meghalaya govt

Following the tragic incident in which more than 15 miners were trapped and went untraced in a coal mine in South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, the state government now wants to hold private mine owners responsible for any mishap in their mines.
