The process of honouring outstanding personalities from different walks of life with Padma awards for 2018 has begun with the home ministry inviting nominations.
In a rare gesture of political goodwill, the government on Wednesday announced Padma awards for leadership cutting across party lines — from NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma and Jammu and Kashmir stalwart Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to its own veterans, Murli Manohar Joshi and Sunderlal Patwa.
The nominations can be made online but the nominators would be required to furnish their Aadhaar details for authenticity and accountability.
