Taliban gets a new chief: Mullah Mansoor appointment spells regional uncertainty
Fp Staff • .The choice of Mullah Mohammad Akhtar Mansoor as the new head of the Taliban is logical given his seniority and close relationship with the former leader Mullah Omar. However, Omar's now-confirmed death could translate into a depletion of support for Mansoor, and derail efforts to hold peace talks. Worse yet, an increase in defections to the Islamic State can only translate into more trouble for the region.
