Hossein Rahnimi, the head of a local hospital, said many of the injured also suffered panic attacks. The earthquake struck western Iran near its border with Iraq, damaging buildings and sending fearful residents running into the streets.

Earthquake of 6.3 magnitude hits western Iran; over 170 injured, six rescue teams deployed
Morteza Salimi of Iran's Red Crescent told Iranian state television that 171 people were injured, most of them slightly. Kermanshah provincial Governor Houshang Bazvand similarly said there were injuries, but few people hospitalised.
