West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi today said agitations by students in the state were bringing disrepute to their institutions.
Teachers also took out a rally in the campus to protest against being blamed for the academic crisis in the reputed university.
Fresh protests were triggered on the Jadavpur University campus on Thursday when Vice-Chancellor Abhijit Chakraborty stepped foot inside, one week after the alleged episode of use of force against the varsity's students during a stir.
"It is unfortunate what has happened. Let good sense prevail among the students. Let them come for discussion. I hope all problems will be solved," the VC said.
Police had arrested 36 students from the Jadavpur University campus on the night of September 16 during its action to free Vice-Chancellor on a written request from him.
