Hima Das says she did not tell her parents about importance of taking part in IAAF U-20 World Championship
India's young sprinter Hima Das revealed on Friday that she "did not tell" her parents that she was taking part in the IAAF U-20 World Championship in Finland, an event that saw her script history.
Hima Das on Thursday scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold at the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships as she clinched to top spot in the women's 400m final race on the third day of competitions in Tampere.
The 18-year-old Hima Das clocked 52.10 seconds to win the semifinals heat number one and led the overall time charts. She had also led the time charts in the first round heats yesterday with a timing of 52.25.
