The PMO stated fixed deposits will be opened in the names of such children and they will receive a monthly stipend once they turn 18 and a Rs 10 lakh each when they turn 23 from PM CARES fund
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights made the announcement a day after the Supreme Court directed all district officers to fill data of children orphaned by COVID-19 within 24 hours
According to the government data between 1 April and 25 May, as many as 577 children were orphaned in the wake of coronavirus.
