Senior Congress leader Tarun Gogoi Monday said the party will seek support from all organisations and social groups who are opposed to the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
The Congress has reasons to be concerned that it is no longer recognised as an attractive home or destination. In recent weeks, only Navjot Singh Sidhu has joined it, but not before he first tried his luck with the Aam Admi Party after quitting the BJP.
Holding the defeat of Congress in Assam as collective failure of its functionaries, vice president of the party's state unit today alleged that BJP and its allies won the polls on "false propaganda of identity crisis".
Even as Assam, one of the few states governed by the Congress, is going to polls early next year, it has been hit by crisis as reports suggest that rebel MLAs and leaders plan to split away from the party.
"We discussed the causes of our party's defeat. On this basis we resolved to send a letter to Sonia Gandhi tomorrow to give her a picture of the situation and suggest corrective measures," Sarma said.
