England 150-9 after 20 overs Dernbach 2, Finn 1 That’s it. Holders England have been knocked out of the World T20. West Indies and Sri Lanka go through to the semifinals. England will go home and take a sharp look at their performances in Sri Lanka. Anyone missing Kevin Pietersen? WICKET! England 147-9 after 19.2 overs Grame Swann b Kulasekara 34 (20b, 4x4, 1x6) Great effort from Swann. Four fours and a six gave England unrealistic hope, but at least took the match to the last over. Kulasekara uproots the leg-stump and Swann walks. WICKET! England 144-8 after 18.5 overs Samit Patel b Malinga 67 (48b, 8x4, 2x6) Uff! Patel makes some room and the ball is heading towards the off-stump. When Patel turned back, the stump wasn’t there. What a ripper of a delivery. England 137-7 after 18 overs Patel 66, Swann 27 Late flurry from Swann and Patel. Three fours and a mighty six mean he’s scored his 27 from just 14 balls. Dananjaya’s full delivery is scooped up by Broad straight to short mid-off. The ball hits Jayawardene’s palms, goes up before he collects it. Jonty Rhodes style that one. WICKET! The leg-spinner invites Bopara to play off his pads but he’s beaten by the turn and is bowled. Great ball, but the shot selection was really bad. WICKET! He traps Morgan in front of the stumps, the ball straightens a bit as he tries a reverse sweep and the finger goes up. England 55-3 after 8 overs Patel 29, Morgan 6 Samit Patel has lit up the English run-chase. Five fours and a six have settled the early nerves. Morgan, who is another dangerous batsman hasn’t taken any risks as of now. England need these two to be around till at least 15 overs to have a solid stake for a win. WICKETS! Without quite settling in well, Bairstow is caught after a high ill-timed shot and Hales is gone LBW. England are in trouble already. WICKET! ENGLAND COME OUT TO BAT Sri Lanka 168-6 after 20 overs Kulasekara 1, Perera 25 SL have done well to get to this total, especially after England’s fine bowling performance. England, who are without Craig Kieswetter, will be looking for a good start— something they haven’t had in quite some time. WICKET! Sri Lanka 161-6 after 18.5 overs Lahiru Thirimanne b Broad 13 (7b, 1x4, 1x6) Bowled! Thirimanne, who looked menacing after his four and a huge six, has been cleaned up comprehensively by Broad. For the second time in this match, SL have lost two wickets in two balls. Mendis is caught at mid-wicket first and then Broad bowls out Mathews. Sri Lanka 104-3 after 14 overs Angelo 13, J Mendis 11 Two fours each for Mendis and Angelo Mathews before a slight lull settles in. SL are scoring steadily at a run-rate of 7.50 runs an over, but they need to keep wickets till the end so that they can risk a few big hits. WICKET! Sri Lanka 74-3 after 10.2 overs Kumar Sangakkara c Bairstow b Swann 13 (12b, 1x4, 0x6) Oh! Sangakkara’s gone now! He can’t believe it but the umpires give the decision to Swann and two of Sri Lanka’s best batsmen are gone in the space of a two deliveries. WICKET! Sri Lanka 74-2 after 10.1 overs Mahela Jayawardene c Morgan b Swann 42 (38b, 5x4, 1x6) Gone! Jayawardene’s played a fantastic innings with some exquisite shots but what looked like it would be a big score has been cut short. He tries to hit it past the on-side but a diving Morgan catch does him Sri Lanka 53-1 after 7 overs Mahela 27, Sangakkara 7 Sangakkara immediately gets off the mark with a lucky boundary through his legs. Jayawardene then paddle sweeps for four more and SL have had a fairly good start. Swann though, must be relieved that Dilshan is gone. WICKET! Sri Lanka 35-1 after 4.4 overs T Dilshan lbw b Finn 16 (12b, 1x4, 1x6) Gone! The umpire took a moment to think about it, but he eventually decides that Dilshan is out as the ball strikes his back-leg after a missed wild swing. Finn does the damage. Sri Lanka 33-0 after 4 overs Mahela 14, Dilshan 16 0-6-1-6-wd-1-1: Good over for Sri Lanka, with both batsmen picking their spots and whacking a six each. The wide doesn’t quite help Dernbach. Sri Lanka 12-0 after 2 overs Mahela 2, Dilshan 8 Swann may have already made the biggest mistake of the match. He’s dropped Dilshan at first slip after the ball popped out of his hands at the last moment. He looks distraught every time Dilshan attacks the ball.
