White stars in Australia's T20 win over England

Cameron White scored 75 runs from 43 balls and took man-of-the match honors Wednesday as Australia beat England by 13 runs in the first of three Twenty20 matches. White led Australia to 213-4, hitting six boundaries and four sixes, after the home side won the toss and elected to bat first. White’s last international for Australia was a Twenty20 match in October 2012. “It’s been something I’ve worked pretty hard to get the opportunity to do, so it was great to get a few runs in the first game back,” White said. AP[/caption] Bowlers Nathan Coulter-Nile (4-30) and Moises Henriques (2-36) restricted England to 200-9 in its 20 overs, with Ravi Bopara’s 65 runs from 27 balls the highlight of the visitors’ innings. White and opening partner Aaron Finch (52 from 31) put on 106 before Chris Lynn hit three sixes in his late 33 from 19 balls. England lost Michael Lumb (9 from 6) at 14-1, then Henriques struck twice in the fifth over, removing two of England’s top T20 players. Henriques had Luke Wright (9 from 10) playing on and then Alex Hales (22 from 12) lbw, reducing the visitors to 45-3. Coulter-Nile then had Jos Buttler (20 from 14) and Joe Root (32 from 24) caught in the deep in the 12th over at 100-6. A flurry of seven sixes from Bopara wasn’t enough to revive England’s hopes. England captain Stuart Broad said his side could take some confidence from getting as close as it did. “We never really got going with the bat but still got 200 runs,” he said. “Thirteen runs isn’t a huge defeat.” The teams will play T20s on Friday in Melbourne and Sunday in Sydney to conclude England’s Ashes tour. Australia regained the Ashes with a 5-0 scoreline in the Test series and took the one-day internationals 4-1. AP
