His uncle Chris Pike was a journeyman pro who made over 300 appearances for clubs including Fulham, Gillingham, Cardiff, Hereford United. He completed 90 minutes of a 2-0 league win over Millwall while aged just 16 years and 275 days. 5) Before Tottenham, there was Southampton. He made 45 appearances during his two seasons at Southampton, notched five goals and was named both the Football League Young Player of the Year (2007) and also the FAW Young Player of the Year (2007). 6) Bale eventually moved to Tottenham for an initial fee of £5m in May 2007. 7) Bale missed most of the 2007-08 season with injury and then ended up on the losing side for 24 consecutive Premier League games. Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly told Harry Redknapp that Gareth was jinxed, and the situation got so bad that the Spurs boss eventually resorted to bringing Bale on as an 85th minute sub with his side already 4-0 up against Burnley, just to bury the thought.
