Former cricketers Rohan Gavaskar and Amol Muzumdar return on ‘Free Hit’ – brought to you by Firstpost, in association with Exhale Sports – that takes a look at the light-hearted side of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
In the fourth episode of the show, Gavaskar and Muzumdar start off by discussing the shocking decline of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), runners-up from last year’s edition, who became the first team on Monday to get eliminated from the ongoing tournament.
RCB, who have lost eight of their 11 matches so far, suffered their latest loss to Mumbai Indians. Skipper Virat Kohli, who struck four centuries last season, hasn’t been able to improve his lean patch with the bat in recent times in this tournament either.
Among the other topics, the duo discusses the dominance of Bhuvneshwar Kumar in this edition. It is fair to say that he has been the most dominant bowler in this edition so far. While there has been a bit of a tussle between various contenders for the ‘Orange Cap’ (leading run-getter), Bhuvneshwar has hardly faced any competition for the ‘Purple Cap’ (leading wicket-taker), and is ahead of Rising Pune Supergiant’s Imran Tahir, who is currently trailing in second, by four wickets.
Aaron Finch missing out on a match due to a missing kit bag also made its way into the discussion. The said incident took place during Gujarat Lions’ clash against Mumbai Indians in the latter’s backyard of the Wankhede Stadium. Finch, as a result, was replaced by English opening batsman Jason Roy for the game.
“I think it’s a lame excuse. I cannot take that crap from Aaron Finch,” says Muzumdar, who is considered the greatest Indian cricketer to have never played international cricket.
