Unless you have been asleep for the last twenty four hours, you know all about L Sarita Devi's courageous decision to refuse her bronze medal during the presentation ceremony for the lightweight 57gk to 60g category at the 2014 Asian games.
AIBA, amateur boxing's governing body, has decided to open disciplinary proceedings against Sarita for her actions, claiming they were against the spirit of fair play. This is the same body that forbids any appeal against decisions by the judges of a fight, no matter how egregious they might seem.
Almost everyone who watched Sarita's semifinal against Lina Park yesterday believed Sarita was the winner. She landed the harder blows and left her opponent with a bloodied nose. Yet somehow the judges gave the decision 39-37 on points to Park.
The good thing about the technology age is that there is a record of almost everything and we can judge situations for ourselves. Watch the youtube clip of the fight above and decide for yourselves whether Sarita was robbed by the South Koreans or not.
