Watch: Ipswich Town's Wes Burns scores wonder goal in English Championship

Ipswich Town put up an exceptional display of teamwork during their EFL Championship fixture against Coventry on Saturday (2 December). Their passing was so crisp and sharp that it would remind fans of ‘tiki-taka’ a style of play which is iconic to Spanish football. The main objective of this game plan is to keep possession of the ball until an opportunity to attack arises. Ipswich Town took charge of the ball following a missed pass by a Coventry mid-fielder. It was moments ahead of the first-half whistle when Ipswich Town were already leading the home game by one goal. Instead of trying anything in a hurry, they decided to build up with composure. The Ipswich Town defenders first played some quick passes with their goalkeeper. The up-front players of Coventry continued to press but could not recover the ball. When the opposition players were well above the mid-field region, Ipswich Town suddenly increased their pace in the attacking third.

Full-back Leif Davis received a square pass and began a run down the left flank. He launched an areal delivery, which found the feet of right-winger Wes Burns. Though he had plenty of options inside the box, the Welsh international decided to try his luck with an outside curler. He baffled a couple of Coventry defenders before unleashing a stunning strike, which entered the net from the top-right corner. A clip of the magnificent finish including the very first move of the build-up was dropped on the official X account of Ipswich Town. As per the caption of the video, as many as nine team members were involved in the attack and they played a total of 13 passes among them. There are several fans who feel Wes Burn’s finish should become a contender for the Goal of the Season. Ipswich Town pulled off a dominant start to the Championship fixture, with George Hirst breaking the deadlock in the sixth minute. Thanks to Wes Burns’ strike, the hosts folded the first half with a two-goal lead. The scoreline remained unchanged till the 96th minute when Ipswich Town’s Brandon Williamson put the ball into their own net. It didn’t matter though as Ipswich Town picked up a full three points from the home fixture. After 19 matches, Ipswich Town are second in the Championship standings. They are only one point behind the table-topper Leicester City.
