Eminent sports journalist Ayaz Memon discusses the weekend double-headers, aside from previewing the upcoming matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 this week, in another edition of the Firstpost Gameplan.
The weekend saw two close games — Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beating Delhi Daredevils (DD) by 15 runs and Mumbai Indians (MI) outsmarting Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by four wickets in a game that went down to the very last minute. In the other matches, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) recovered from a bad start to ultimately win their opening encounter, in which they squared off against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS). Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) having got off to a strong start with a 35-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), thrashed struggling Gujarat Lions by nine wickets in a lopsided encounter.
While KXIP face RCB later on Monday at their adopted home venue of the Holkar Stadium in Indore, both RPS and DD face each other after losing their latest games. MI face a much tougher test in the form of SRH, which will be their second successive match at their home venue.
