It’s still not official but sources close to the Mumbai Indians have indicated that Videocon D2H will be the new Mumbai Indians shirt front sponsor.
Videocon d2h is the DTH service provided by the Videocon Group. Videocon Group is an industrial conglomerate with interests all over the world, and is an Indian multinational company.
Firstpost’s sources have indicated that it is a done deal. The Mumbai Indians were looking for a new shirt sponsor after Hero MotoCorp, India’s leading two-wheeler manufacturer, decided to stop sponsoring cricket-related events.
The exit took many by surprise because it came just two years after Hero MotoCorp had inked a record sponsorship deal of $15 million with the Mumbai Indians. The company still had a year left on the contract.
This deal will come as a huge relief to the Mumbai Indians as a report in the Hindustan Times mentioned that IPL team franchises were battling tepid response from firms in their hunt for sponsors. Hyderabad SunRisers and Rajasthan Royals are yet to announce their partners.
A media buyer told HT, “Franchises are looking for at least 40 percent increase in fees, but companies are not willing to hike more than 15-20 percent.”
In other IPL-related news, Emirates has come on board as an Umpires Sponsor of the IPL. The deal is rumoured to be worth Rs 16-18 crore.
